All-electric and all about performance! Drako Motors is on a mission NOT to save the world but to build automobiles that are a pure thrill to drive. And it’s working – unlike the EV startup debacles that are getting a little too common, the silicon-valley-born automaker is comfortably gaining from exclusivity and innovation.

Drako Motors, Inc. was born in 2013, with entrepreneurs and auto enthusiasts Dean Drako and Shiv Sikand at the helm. A manufacturer of high-performance electric vehicles, Drako Motors has raised over $100 million in funding from investors such as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bessemer Venture Partners, and GV.

The San Jose-based startup announced its single-VCU DriveOS and four-wheel torque vectoring in August 2015. But it got interesting when they introduced Fisker Karma-based Drako GTE in 2019. The supercar delivers in terms of performance, with the quad motor technology and driver-friendly console leading the charge. But you will not likely see the sports sedan on the streets – only 25 came out of production in 2020.

Auto enthusiasts are now eagerly awaiting the Drako Dragon – the all-electric luxury SUV rolling out in 2026. What we already know about Drako Motors’ second production model is exciting. And with a smaller price tag and bigger production plans, you might see it on the streets soon. So, let’s learn more about Drako Motors cars:

Drako GTE: Drako Motors’ All-Electric Supercar

Drako Motors’ first series vehicle – a luxury electric supercar – burst onto the scene at The Quail during Monterey Car Week 2019. The sedan quickly impressed the media and other attendees with a few never-seen-before features.

Drawing inspiration for the Karma Revero GT, the Drako GTE gets the supercar design right. An oblong bonnet, a short rear overhang, large wheel arches, a hexagonal front apron, and sleek headlights complete the look. But the all-electric sports sedan is so much more on the inside.

The four-door seats four and has a top speed of 206 mph, with acceleration of 0-60 in less than three seconds. And what keeps it all going smooth are the quad motors – one for each wheel, four-way adjustable suspension, and driver-oriented Quattro Manettino console for powertrain control. The 90-kWh battery pack outputs 2200 peak amps and supplies 900 kW to the four motors. The estimated range of Drako Motors’ first supercar is 250 miles.

The electric automobile startup released a limited edition of 25 Drako GTE models in 2020, with a $1.25 million sticker price.

Drako Dragon: Drako Motors’ All-Electric Luxury SUV

If the Drako GTE price tag made you feel poor, the second offering for the California-based automaker is a relief. But the promise of high performance and innovation still stands. Drako Motors teased the Dragon in the summer of 2022, and the official announcement came in November.

The electric AWD is a luxury SUV that seats five and has only two doors – but they are Gullwings you can’t miss. The power-operated doors open upwards, making getting into any seat inside the car easier. Outside, the roofline slopes like a coupe, and the grille is a trapezoid that goes well with the slim headlight and taillights. There are rally lights on the glass roof as well. The chassis is carbon fiber.

The athletic exteriors are complemented by luxurious leather and natural fiber interiors, reducing plastic by 70%. But what catches your eye is the 17.1-inch touchscreen next to the wheel; additional screens hang behind the front seats for rear-seat passengers. Small screens on the dashboard eliminate mirrors – because cameras do the work instead.

Behind the scenes, the Dragon has quad motors like the Drako GTE supercar. The combined output is 2000 hp, giving 200+ top speed with 0-60 in 1.9 seconds. The massive 500 kW fast-charging battery promises a 420-mile range. The adaptive suspension raises the Drako Motors’ Dragon as high as 12.4 inches in ‘Overland’ mode.

The Dragons will reach customers in 2026 at a base price of $290K. Drako Motors plans to eventually roll out 5000 units of the electric SUV annually.
