Documents required to replace a lost driver’s license in Georgia 

The Georgia DDS requires Category A and Category B documents to be submitted while requesting a replacement.  

The Category A documents include the following. 

  • Birth Certificate  
  • Birth registration  
  • Adoption, sex change, or name change court records 
  • Naturalization papers 
  • Immigration card. 
  • Active Passport  
  • Military identification card.  
  • You must show your active foreign passport with an I-94 form or stamp if you are not a US citizen. Or bring your green card (I-688 or I-551) or an employment authorization card (I-776, I-688A, I-688B). 

The Category B documents include the following. 

  • Social Security Card 
  • Marriage certificate copy 
  • Income Tax Return 
  • An active insurance policy 
  • Car registration receipt 
  • Voter registration 

Replace a GA driver’s license online 

If you are a resident of the state, then you can apply for a driver’s license replacement online. However, if you own a commercial driver’s license, you may not be allowed to replace it online. Similarly, you cannot replace a canceled, revoked, or suspended license.  

There are two ways by which you can replace your GA driver’s license online. Firstly, through the DDS online service portal and, secondly, through the DDS 2 Go app.  

  • Create an account with the website or on the app. 
  • Fill in the necessary details and submit the required documents. 
  • Make the payment 
  • You will receive the license via mail within 45 days. 

However, you can use the replacement service only three times a year.

Replace a GA driver’s license in person 

Georgia DDS allows you to replace the lost driver’s license in person. This can be done through the nearest customer service centers. The process will include submitting the necessary Category A and Category B documents. Consequently, you can make the payment and wait for the new license.

If you have lost your GA driver’s license out-of-state, you can apply for a replacement online if you know your license number. However, the DDS does not send the replaced license to an out-of-state address. The cost to replace a lost driver’s license in GA, if you have at least 150 days left on your GA driver’s license, is $10.00. However, if your driver’s license is going to expire in less than 150 days, you need to renew it and pay the renewal fee of $32.
