Yes. Nevada offers generous grace periods for drivers with expired driver’s licenses. Any renewal done 30 days after the expiration date will incur an additional $10 fee. However, you can still complete the process in up to 364 days. Active-duty military personnel and their families can extend the deadline without paying a fee. When should you renew your driver’s license in Nevada? 

You can locate the expiration date of your drivers license under the label EXP. The expiration date may vary based on the date of issuance. So, suppose you’re below 65 and received your license between 2014 and 2017 and received a 4-year license. In that case, your expiration date will be changed to an 8-year license when you renew. 

Your license would be valid for eight years if you received it in 2018 or later. Irrespective of the date of issuance, any license issued to a driver 65 or older will be valid for four years. But if you want to renew early, you can do it! 

What documents do I need to renew my driver’s license in Nevada? 

You must produce proof of the following documents for the renewal process.

How to renew your driver’s license in Nevada

  • You have only had a maximum of two moving violations. 
  • The last renewal mode wasn’t online.

  • Follow the directives for renewing your license. 
  • Pay the renewal fee using a credit or debit card. 
  • Print the temporary license that will serve as your new license. You’ll get the renewed license within ten business days.

How to renew in-person

If your renewal notice states you must renew in person, visit your nearest DMV. The renewal mode will be in person if you meet these conditions.  

  • You are 71 years old or older. 
  • The last renewal was online or by mail.  
  • You hold a minimum of three moving violations. 
  • Your license remained inactive for at least a year. 

What to do 

  • Get an appointment online with your nearest DMV office. Some facilities accept walk-ins only. 
  • Gather documents proving your identity, SSN, name change, and residency (two).  
  • Fill in the application form.  
  • If required, pass the vision test. Retake the written test if your license expires for over a year, or you have three moving violations. Senior drivers with inabilities must also pass a driving test.  
  • Pay the renewal fee via credit/debit card, cash, check, or money order.  
  • Receive your old license and a temporary license to use while driving. You will get the renewed license within ten business days. 

How to renew by mail  

The Nevada DMV will mail a renewal reminder if you’re eligible to renew your drivers license by mail. You will also require a physicians statement and an eye exam report. For renewal by mail, you must also meet the following requirements. 

  • You are out of the state during the renewal period. 
  • The last renewal wasn’t via mail.  
  • You’re an active military personnel. 

What to do  

  • Print and complete this application form 
  • Make the renewal payment.

  • Then wait for your renewed license to arrive via mail. 

Military personnel, spouses, and their dependents can do mail-in renewals and have an additional two years after their driver’s licenses expire to complete them. 

How much does it cost for a Nevada driver’s license renewal? 

An eight-year license will cost $41.25, and a four-year license will cost $22.25. If you renew your license more than 30 days after it expires, you must pay an additional $10. 

How early can you renew your driver’s license in Nevada? 

If your expiration date comes within the next six months, the new expiration date will be four or eight years in advance. Suppose the expiration date is within six months to one year of renewal. In that case, the expiration year will be seven years in advance.
