A Norway Spruce is on its way to the Big Apple and will soon stand 82ft tall outside the Rockefeller Center. If you have never been to the annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting ceremony, this is your sign to tick it off the bucket list. Let’s get you started:
When does the Rockefeller tree go up?
The 2022 Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony is on Wednesday, November 30.
The Norway Spruce from Queensbury was revealed last week on social media. It’s 82ft-tall, 50ft-wide, 14 tons heavy, and 85-90 years old – perfect for marking the 90th year of the ceremony. The tree arrives on November 12, so there’s enough time to spruce it up with 50,000 LED lights (about 5 miles of wire) and the iconic Swarovski Star topper before the mayor hits the switch.

Can I watch the Rockefeller tree lighting?
The Rockefeller Christmas tree goes up between Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue and West 49th Street. It’s a prime NYC neighborhood, less than a mile from Times Square – the crowds won’t let up that easily and if you hope to get a closer look, reach early.
Arrive with a few hours to spare before the event begins. Public access is limited and works on a first-come, first-serve basis. Check for Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony updates and more details here.
After the lighting ceremony on November 30, you can see the lit Rockefeller Tree daily, from 6 am to 12 am. It will remain lit for 24 hours on Christmas Day and from 6 am to 9 pm on New Year’s Eve. The lights are removed and taken down in the first week of January.
Where can I find Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting parking?
Rockefeller Center parking garage does not offer official event parking for the annual tree lighting ceremony. But you may park at the on-site garage; it’ll be cheaper if you pre-book a spot online.
