We’re Totally Crushing on the Nissan Z: Here’s Why

Spread the love

We’ve all been waiting for it, and finally, the 2023 Nissan Z is starting to arrive at dealerships. Z is often considered Japan’s answer to the Ford Mustang or Porsche 911. So we fell in love with it when Nissan unveiled the all-new Z at the 2022 New York International Auto Show! Now that the 2023 Nissan Z is officially at dealerships, here’s all you need to know about it.

It’s not called the Nissan 400Z

The car we all figured would be called the 2022 Nissan 400Z is now known as the 2023 Nissan Z, a more generic name for Nissan’s next-generation sports car.

We still think the 400Z would have been ideal, given that this new Nissan produces 400 horsepower from its twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. This is the same engine featured in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport. It, too, produces 350 lb-ft of torque across a wide range of 1,600 to 5,600 rpm, just like the Infiniti. However, before we get too ahead before you get behind the wheel of the 2023 Nissan Z, you must make sure you have the best auto insurance coverage.

Why we’re lovin’ the Nissan Z

The 2023 Nissan Z is both distinctive and recognizable, with visual characteristics shared with nearly three decades of Nissan sports vehicles. You’ll never lack attention while driving this car, but that’s not the only reason we love it. Here’s what Nissan gets right with the 2023 Z.

Attainable pricing

It’s all about the money, honey! And that’s why we’ve put pricing as the top reason why the Nissan Z is such a good car. For the regular Nissan Z Sport, Nissan suggests a starting MSRP of $ 39,990. The Performance trim costs an additional $10,000, while the range-topping limited-edition Proto Spec costs $ 52,990. While it is more expensive than the outgoing 370Z, the new Nissan Z nevertheless outperforms the majority of its competitors, making it a new budget performance hero. Furthermore, the price is the same whether you choose the manual or automatic transmission.

Stunning exterior

So far, this new vehicle is Nissan’s best effort, a modernized take on the Z car concept. Its beautiful appearance is the consequence of a careful blending of nostalgic flavors and the sleek, modern silhouette, both of which owe a debt to the car’s classic forebears. The new Z’s sleek design is based on the Datsun 240Z and features a rectangular grill, semi-circular headlights, and rounded rear pillars; the 300ZX-inspired horizontal LED tail lights are also present.

Gorgeous interior

The cabin continues to pay homage to the Z’s forbears. The three analog binnacles above the dashboard are classic Z cars. Still, there is now an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen (9.0-inch on the top Performance grade) and a customizable 12.3-inch digital meter display to bring this current model up to date. The style of the door handles, and steering wheel also harkens back to older generations. The standard interior colors are black, red, and blue, with yellow highlights and stitching on the Z Proto Spec edition vehicle.

Powerful twin turbo

The Nissan 400Z can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 160 mph. Because of this, the Nissan 400Z is among the company’s quickest vehicles. Also, although we are in the midst of an EV blitzkrieg, the new Nissan Z remains a gas car for fans. The engine is a new inter-cooled twin-turbo 3-liter V6 producing 400 horsepower and 350lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful mill ever seen in a Nissan Z. It lacks the GT-fire-breathing R’s 565hp mill. Still, its 400 horses make it the most powerful basic powertrain in the class. In comparison, the standard Supra has a 255hp inline-four turbo base powertrain.

Connectivity and responsive technology

Though it has plenty of classic elements, inside the Z is uber modern, with technology and networking capabilities to keep you in the loop fast and effortlessly. The Performance variant has a 9-inch touch screen center display, while the basic model has an 8-inch display. Both have Nissan’s latest logical infotainment system, clean menus, and beautiful graphics. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard.

Driving comfort

The new Nissan Z is undoubtedly an extremely capable and fun-to-drive sports car. It is also an ideal city car thanks to its supple suspension will let the driver get comfy in comfort mode. Not just that, the spacious driving cabin can seat two in utmost comfort. In addition, the Nissan Z’s clutch pedal is light and easy enough, an absolute must if you want to survive crawling bumper-to-bumper traffic in the urban jungle. Most importantly, the twin-turbo V-6 manages 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, which increases to 19 mpg. These factors combine to create the new 2023 Nissan Z, the ideal one-car answer to all your adrenaline-fueled dreams.

Outstanding safety and driver assistance

Nissan equips the new Z with enhanced safety and driving assistance technology to boost driver confidence. The Nissan Z comes with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot warning. There’s also lane departure warning and high beam assist. These features are always monitoring and ready to respond to your surroundings. In addition, the adaptive cruise control makes commuting easier, while a rearview monitor and front and rear sonar sensors aid with parking. The advanced safety features include six airbags, traction technology, zone body structure, and enhanced ABS.

Robust dynamics

The superbly built original Nissan Z was a delight to drive. Despite being separated in time, the new Nissan Z keeps the spirit of its forefather and provides a good driving experience. Despite gaining around 50 pounds, it seems more responsive than the previous 370Z.

Furthermore, the mechanically limited-slip differential, upgraded suspension, electric power steering, and greater body stiffness result in charmingly smooth handling. The Toyota Supra and Porsche Cayman have faster responses, but the Z is more fluid and delivers greater joy on long sweeping curves.

What makes the Nissan Z a future classic

With the new Z, Nissan has done a little bit of chest-thumping to affirm its engineering and design expertise. It comes from a good lineage, has an ICE engine in the electric age, stick gear, and a matching silhouette. In addition, Nissan has changed its traditional custom of labeling Z automobiles with a three-digit number representing engine displacement followed by the word Z. Perhaps the Nissan Z will mark the beginning of a new age.

The Nissan Z comes with a stick shift!

Yes, it certainly does. The 2023 Z will be available with either a nine-speed slushbox with paddle shifters or a six-speed manual gearbox with a high-performance clutch.

2023 Nissan Z Trims

The new Nissan Z is available in two trim levels: Sport and Performance. The Sport variant has 18-inch wheels and 2-piston front / single-piston rear brakes, while the Performance model has 19-inch wheels with more performance-oriented tires, bigger brake disks, and floating four-piston front / two-piston rear calipers. A dual exhaust system is also standard on high-performance vehicles.

The ‘Build Your Z’ tool

Nissan offers a “Build Your Z” option for prospective purchasers to personalize with numerous add-ons. This lets you have a pretty decent range of customizations on your new 2023 Nissan Z. These include:

Paint

The 2018 Nissan Z comes with several fantastic color combination as possibilities. Colors that do not incur extra charges are Gun Metallic, Black Diamond, and Rosewood Metallic. However, if you want a color that grabs attention, you’ll have to spend some money. The two-toned Passion Red Tri-Coat/Super Black hue is the costliest paint choice. This vibrant red color is available for your new Nissan Z for $1,695. The other expensive options, Ikazuchi Yellow and Seiran Blue, aren’t far behind at $1,295.

Race stripes

You may want race stripes if you intend to race your Nissan Z. In that case, you can purchase a dealer-installed set constructed of high-quality materials for $595. However, if you choose the option with the spoiler, this modification gets more expensive. You’ll have to shell out $1,225 for the racing stripe and $630 for the spoiler!

Retractable cargo cover

The retractable cargo cover is another relatively pricey option in the “Build Your Z” tool. However, this $500 dealer-installed addition claims silky-smooth performance and folds away when unused.

Rear spoiler

Adding a rear spoiler to the Nissan Z range is one of the most popular upgrades, and the next-generation model is no exception. In addition, you can add a tailor-made trunk lip spoiler for $630, which Nissan claims improves aerodynamics.

Virtual key

This is our favorite add-on. The Nissan Virtual Key is useful for folks who enjoy using smart gadgets. Users can handle the locking, unlocking, and starting of their car by downloading the Virtual Key app for smartphones and the Apple Watch. One of the Virtual Key’s biggest features is granting access to friends or family. You can also control the level of access you can provide. For example, give them in-app access if you want to allow someone to drive. In addition, you can restrict access to only unlock/lock for people who can only look but not touch.
