The mad travel dash at airports kicked off this week. The Way.com parking team saw a 100% increase in YoY bookings at many of the largest airport parking locales throughout the country including LAX, SFO, ATL, and Orlando. Meanwhile, the only locations where there wasn’t a 100% lift were out of JFK and LaGuardia. Unquestionably, these airports are where travel tends to see more of an uptick in the summer months.
Airport travel volume is getting very close to pre-pandemic levels. In comparison, in 2019 there were 2.31 million checks per day on average. In 2020, numbers plummeted to as low as 100k checks per day in April.
Expect December to be even busier, as Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa tops the list of holidays for travel, with 20.22% of Americans saying they will be departing for a family adventure around that time, versus 15.19% who said they’d be heading out for Thanksgiving.
Plan on giving yourself extra time to get through those security checkpoints, as it may take up to 45 minutes to complete the process. Most importantly, enjoy the time with family and friends.
