They relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1963, adopting the name of an earlier team with the same name and changing their nickname to the Bullets. As soon as the team relocated to the D.C. area in 1973, it underwent a name change, initially to the Capital Bullets and then, beginning with the 1974‚Äď75 season, to the Washington Bullets. Finally, they renamed themselves the Wizards in 1997.¬†

Wes Unseld Jr. leads the coaching department of the Washington Wizards. Known for his offensive game plans during his previous tenure as an assistant coach with the Wizards, Unseld Jr. left the team for the Golden State Warriors in 2011 after being denied a position as a front-row bench coach. Later he returned to the team in 2021, signing a four-year contract. The Wizards finished 4th in the Southeast division in the 2021-22 season under his tenure. He is the son of Wes Unseld, the only NBA Hall of Famer in Washington Wizards history.  

Joseph Blair, Pat Delany, Zach Guthrie, Mike Miller, Dean Oliver, James Posey, and Ryan Richman are his deputies.

Originally opened to the public in 1997 as MCI Center, the Capital One Arena in Minneapolis is where the Washington Wizards play their home games. Moreover, the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and Georgetown Hoyas of the National Collegiate Athletic Association also call this stadium their home. It had also been the home ground for Washington Mystics, Washington Power, and Washington Valor in the past.
