Travel demand stayed strong this past week – over 15 million people passed through various TSA checkpoints across the country from July 12-18. The highest air travel footfall was on July 18, with 2,227,704 people flying out of various airports across the country.

On the whole, there’s been a consistent rise in overall passenger traffic. To a great extent, this can be attributed to the closure of more schools, which encourages families to vacation, and, to a lesser extent, the reopening of international borders, which allows for increased tourism. While this is a welcome sign for the airline and associated industries, airports and airport parking lots are still struggling to cope. The weather has also been playing spoilsport. Newark airport parking lots had to close after storms caused flooding. Philly didn’t have any weather issues, yet passengers flying out of Philadelphia were thrown a curveball recently. Yet another long-term Philly airport parking facility, this one operated by PreFlight Airport Parking, has declared its intention to close this month. Keep in mind that since March 2020, the airport’s $13-per-day economy parking lot has been closed, with no reopening date scheduled. It’s not all doom and gloom for air travelers, though. Passengers can now pay for their Atlanta Airport parking at the new ATL West deck with their Peach Pass. If you’re traveling this summer, make sure to reserve parking at Philly Airport parking, Newark Airport parking, and Atlanta Airport parking as soon as you book your airline tickets. Airlines and airports have suggested that travelers arrive early to avoid long security check queues. You don’t want to be racing about looking for a parking spot at the last minute. Additionally, please continue to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
