With plenty of brands jostling for space in the automotive market, it’s quite natural that Genesis isn’t the first name that comes to mind when you think of luxury sedans. But that’s to be expected for such a young company. For a company that debuted in 2015, this luxury car manufacturer has carved out a niche for itself in the market. But did you know that Genesis did not begin from scratch, unlike other new car makers? Instead, the brand has ties to an established traditional car brand. So who makes Genesis cars? Which brand are they linked to? Let’s take a closer look at Genesis cars and what you need to know about them.

We’ll start with the first and most commonly asked question:

Who makes Genesis cars?

Genesis Motor, LLC, also known as Genesis, is the luxury vehicle division of South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company.

Genesis cars

We noticed the Genesis name on a flagship Hyundai sedan beginning with the 2009 model year. The South Korean automaker’s premium division then evolved from it, debuting in 2017 with a two-model lineup, the G80, and G90 sedans.

Since then, the Genesis name has become synonymous with high-quality cars with rear- or all-wheel drive that provide excellent value for money. The G70 sports sedan, G80 midsize sedan, G90 full-size sedan, and GV80 midsize SUV are among the models available.

The popularity of the automobile skyrocketed as it became its own brand. Within a few years, the brand had a comprehensive array of sedans and SUVs. An electric variant will also be available in the future, demonstrating Genesis’ commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Are Genesis cars sold in the US?

Genesis introduced its G80 and G90 models in the United States in late 2016. The country’s first Genesis dealers, who also happened to be Hyundai dealers, set up a dedicated location in their showrooms for Genesis automobiles to exhibit the new models at the time. A year later, Genesis debuted the G70 model to the US market, which received favorable reviews from auto critics for being an amazing sports sedan with crisp handling and excellent value for money.

Are Genesis good cars?

Compared with other premium manufacturers, Genesis provides excellent value for money and can compete with the finest in terms of performance, features, and comfort.

The Genesis vehicle lineup is dependable, with relatively few issues reported by today’s customers. With adequate maintenance, the engines have a long lifespan. Furthermore, the frequency of repairs is lower than that of most other luxury brands on the road.

Here are 5 reasons why Genesis cars are good

Safety

In the JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study, Genesis outperformed second-place Lexus by having the fewest reported faults among three-year-old vehicles. In addition, every current Genesis has received a Top Safety Pick Plus designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, providing additional consumer peace of mind.

Engine

Hyundai Motor Group manufactures Genesis engines. As a leading South Korean automaker, you know that these engines are powerful and dependable. There are several engine choices with varying performance specs.

Performance

The engines found in Genesis models are powerful and dependable. You’ll easily believe you’re driving a Porsche or something else from the sports vehicle sector. The base G80, for instance, is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower. Both engine options use an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Affordability

Established luxury car brands with big names will sometimes release an ordinary car and charge a fortune, but with Genesis, you’ll get your money’s worth. Initially, auto critics were unimpressed with Genesis’ price-cutting plan. But Genesis quickly became known for consistently providing more features and technological innovation at a lesser price.

Fuel economy

Because it achieves 32 miles per gallon when driven on the interstate, the 2021 Genesis G80 is the model year’s most fuel-efficient offering from the Genesis lineup. The 2021 Genesis G70, on the other hand, boasts a maximum of 30 miles per gallon on the highway. This makes Genesis cars some of the most fuel-efficient luxury cars on the market.

What are the most common Genesis problems?

Noisy steering

Some consumers have reported hearing a white noise coming from the power steering pump. However, it could simply be due to a clogged reservoir that aerates the fluid. You could clean the reservoir screen to solve the problem. This should restore normal flow until the drain becomes clogged again.

Rough idle

Genesis engines are notorious for having a harsh idle at times. It is particularly noticeable when the engine is cold. The engine idle could lead to the Check Engine Light coming on. It could be a P161B issue code. A code scanner will let you know what’s wrong. A PCM update is usually sufficient to resolve the issue.

Faulty audio system

Some Genesis models may have a faulty sound system. The audio from the sound system may break when using the navigation system. You may not be able to hear any sound from your phone, satellite radio, or CD player. Otherwise, the other functions are generally reliable. The dropped sound, on the other hand, might be bothersome, especially on a lengthy journey.

Does Genesis have an electric car?

Genesis has launched an electric version of its GV70 SUV, called the Electrified GV70. This is a dedicated EV, also known as a BEV or Battery Electric Vehicle. This means no gasoline or hybrid vehicles are available. Also, the electric GV70 is the first of three electric vehicles that Genesis will launch this year.

Is it better to buy a Lexus or a Genesis?

Compared to its competitors, including the 2021 Lexus ES 350, the 2021 Genesis G80 offers a higher overall value. The Genesis is less expensive than most other midsize luxury sedans you’ll find on the market, but it still has more features and amenities.

Are Genesis cars expensive to insure?

The average monthly insurance cost for a Genesis is roughly $200. Many factors, like where you live and the car model, will influence the actual insurance rates. This is 70% more than the typical cost of auto insurance in the US. So comparing prices is a good idea. Way.com allows you to quickly and easily compare auto insurance quotes from more than a hundred different companies, helping you to locate the finest coverage for your Genesis at the most affordable rate.
