What are the different sizes of the truck bed?

There are two main ways to categorize a truck bed. The first difference is in length, and the second is where the tires are placed as in, style.

Length based

Truck beds have three main lengths: short, standard, and long. Each category has no set length, but short beds are usually between 5.5 and 6.5 feet long. Standard beds are between 6 and 6.5 feet long. And long beds are over 6.5 feet long and up to 8 feet long. However, all companies don’t follow this categorization.

Style based

The category of style depends on the position of the wheels. This means, whether the wheels are under the bed of the truck or on the side, matters.

A fleetside bed is a truck bed that has wheels under it. The wheel wells on this type of truck bed make the bed smaller. The flat side of the truck is a good thing about this type of bed. The wheels meet the side of the truck exactly.

A step-side truck is a type of truck that has wheels on the side. This type of arrangement lets the truck bed be completely square. But the truck wheels are often wider than the truck bed and sometimes even wider than the cabin.

When driving a fleetside truck, the driver needs to be more aware of how wide the truck is and where it can fit.

What is the average width of a pickup truck bed?

The width and length of the pickup truck bed will vary depending on the model. In general, the longer the truck bed, the broader it will be. On average, the width of a pickup truck bed ranges from 56.8 inches to 71.4 inches.

How should I measure a truck bed?

The dimensions of a truck bed are easy to figure out. Get a measuring tape, then measure the distance between the bulkhead’s inner side and the tailgate’s inside. Then, measure the width of the widest part of the truck bed from one end to the other. You shouldn’t measure the truck bed from the outside since the truck’s bodywork can add a few inches.

Should I invest in a truck bed cover?

Getting a cover for your truck is good if you wish to maintain it. Weather can harm your truck.  Truck bed covers are great because they keep the weather from damaging the bed of your truck. It can also keep your cargo safe when it’s full, and it saves gas.

Which truck bed should I get?

It varies according to your requirements. Do you need to transport long slabs of plywood in your pickup? Ask yourself. Do you require additional passenger space in your truck? Do you require a quick off-road vehicle?

Most drivers who don’t require extra cargo room should be fine with a truck with a conventional short bed. However, a standard extended bed size is required for increased utility if you intend to utilize your truck as a workhorse.

Consider your priorities carefully before getting yourself a truck. However, if you decide on a smaller bed size and need to upgrade it, you can do so by adding a truck bed extension.
