If you’re flying overseas from EWR, then most probably you will be flying out from Terminal B at Newark Airport. Whether you are flying to London, Singapore, or Frankfurt, this is your terminal. So, it won’t be much of a surprise to hear that this terminal stays busy throughout the day. It is also the oldest of all the terminals in EWR.
Currently, the terminal is undergoing a major rebuild, so expect a livelier, a tad rougher-around-the-edges energy than the recently rebuilt Terminal A. With three concourses, each having its own security checkpoints, EWR Terminal B handles significant passenger volume. So, it is best to familiarize yourself with the terminal in advance, as ending up in the wrong concourse can make you go through the security screening process again. It can be quite a hassle!

EWR Airport Terminal B has four levels:
Terminal B was opened in the early 1970s, built to manage international traffic at EWR as overseas routes became common with the introduction of wide-body jets. EWR Terminal B remained the airport’s primary international gateway, even though the airlines and destinations served changed over the decades.
By 2020, Terminal B became another visible sign of the airport’s aging infrastructure. The overcrowded gate areas and systems were unable to handle the rising passenger traffic. As part of an interim modernization program, the Port Authority allotted $200 million to upgrade seating, restrooms, gates, elevators, and baggage systems in Terminal B.
Construction is happening in phases while the terminal stays fully operational. If you’re flying out via this terminal, expect construction sounds, temporary signs, and likely gate changes until the project finishes. This interim project keeps service quality until a fully rebuilt terminal opens in the mid-2030s.
Most international airlines serving EWR operate from Terminal B, including major carriers like Air France, British Airways, Emirates, and Lufthansa, along with domestic carriers like Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, Sun Country Airlines, etc.
Compared to Concourses B1 and B3, B2 has fewer shops and restaurants. So, we suggest grabbing food before heading to B2 if that’s your gate. As each concourse has a separate security checkpoint, you must double-check which one your airline uses before you head for the screening process. As the flight times and gates can change unexpectedly, it is always best to check the EWR flight status before you drive to the airport.

Terminal B has three separate security checkpoints spread across its three concourses. For general screening, wait times typically range between 1 and 20 minutes, and between 3 and 10 minutes if you have enrolled in TSA PreCheck. However, this time can vary depending on the time of your travel and the checkpoint.

Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays are typically the busiest days at EWR Terminal B. Also, the passenger traffic surges during the months of July, August, and December. Therefore, the wait times can be longer. We always recommend checking live EWR TSA wait times before you leave.

For the most convenient onsite parking spot, you should park your car in the Terminals B & C Short-Term Parking Garage, where the rates start at $5.25 for the first 30 minutes and go up to a maximum of $70 a day. The P6 Economy Parking lot offers the cheapest onsite parking rates.
However, if you are looking for the cheapest Newark Airport parking rates, you should park your car at any of the offsite lots nearby. Most offsite parking lots even offer a free round-trip shuttle service.
If you are planning to relax before a long flight, make use of the EWR Terminal B lounges. The terminal features the British Airways Lounge, SAS Lounge, and Lufthansa Senator/Business Lounge.

You can find charging outlets across all the concourses in Terminal B, along with some spots before security. These are some of the locations where you can find the charging stations.
You can find the Uber and Lyft pickup area at the Arrivals level, on the terminal front. For a taxi, make your exit via Level 1, Door 2, and head to the dispatch booth to hire one.
You can connect to Newark Airport Terminal A and C via the 24/7, free AirTrain. The terminals aren’t connected after the security area. So, navigating between them typically requires exiting and clearing TSA again.
It takes around 2 to 5 minutes to reach Newark Airport Terminal C via the AirTrain. The Terminal A AirTrain station is not directly connected to the terminal building, so allow extra time: from the station you will need to take an airport shuttle or use the pedestrian walkway, which takes about 5 to 15 minutes. Typically, it takes 3 to 5 minutes to walk from Terminal B to the AirTrain station located outside the terminal building.
