Chicago Midway International Airport's terminal design is one of a kind, addressing multiple demands within its spatial constraints. The airport campus is closely packed inside a residential area of Chicago. One main terminal building with three connected concourses serves travelers and multiple airlines. Using our detailed Midway Airport Terminal map, you can locate ticketing, baggage claim, parking garage connections, the security checkpoint, concourses, and passenger services throughout the complex.

Chicago Midway Airport terminal layout

Midway’s terminal is arranged across three main passenger levels. The upper level is the triangular-shaped main terminal area, from where you can navigate to any of the three concourses. Past security, the Central Market serves as the terminal’s main hub, with several retail shops and restaurants.

Once you pass through the security checkpoint, you can move between Concourses A, B, and C without exiting the secured area. Study our Chicago Midway Airport Terminal map to find a restaurant, shop, lounge, or amenities in another concourse.

MDW Airport concourses and gates

Midway has three connected concourses with 43 gates in total, with 17 gates in Concourse A, 23 in Concourse B, and three in Concourse C.

Concourse A

Concourse A hosts 17 gates from A1 through A19, not in continuous numeric order. The concourse doesn't have gates A6 and A13. Concourse A begins with gates A1 through A3. Gate A4 is divided into two boarding positions, A4A and A4B. Both boarding positions are separated from the main concourse area.

In Concourse A, you can find the Food Hall, several restaurants, retail stores, seating, charging facilities, a pet relief area, a lactation pod, and other passenger services.

Concourse A is also important for international travelers as it handles international arrivals and associated Federal Inspection facilities.

Concourse B

Concourse B contains 23 gates, numbered B1 through B26, with gate numbers B4, B6, and B13 omitted from the sequence. The concourse connects directly to the Central Market and provides access to restaurants, retail, seating, charging facilities, and The Club MDW.

Concourse C

Concourse C sits right next to the Central Market of the Midway Airport terminal. This is the smallest of the three concourses. It only handles three gates: C1, C2, and C3. The Midway Airport Terminal map shows passenger amenities in the area, including a chapel, Yoga Room, Mother’s Room, retail shops, and food options.

Midway Airport terminal levels

The Midway Airport Terminal has three levels: Upper Level, Mezzanine Level, and Lower Level. Each level has an assigned purpose, and you can find the respective entrances and exits on our Midway Airport Terminal map.

Upper level

As the Midway Airport Terminal map suggests, the upper level is the main departure level at MDW. Therefore, you can find ticket counters for both domestic and international carriers here. The upper-level roadway provides curbside access to the terminal. You can also find elevators, airport information, ATMs, restrooms, the security checkpoint, and access to the fourth level of the Terminal Garage on this level.

Mezzanine level

Once you finish the check-in/bag-drop, proceed to the TSA Checkpoint to gain access to the concourses. We recommend checking the TSA Wait Times at MDW before heading to the airport. It helps to avoid unnecessary delays and arrive at the boarding gates earlier than the scheduled flight time. You can find facilities including the Mother’s Room, specialty vending, the Yoga Room, and USO facilities on this level.

Lower level: Arrivals and baggage claim

The lower level is the main arrivals area where you can find the baggage claim. The level gives travelers access to the first level of the Terminal Garage. The Midway Airport Terminal map also marks airport information, restrooms, a pet relief area, rental-car-related access, and other passenger services in and around this level.

Apart from the regular facilities, there is a self-service repair station near the baggage claim. This helps you with minor luggage, equipment, and assistive-device repairs. The facility is located near the Chicago Police Department help desk.

Domestic and international flights at MDW

Domestic and international concourses are not separate at Midway Airport. Domestic and international flights use the same terminal complex, with airlines operating from different concourses. For international arrivals, Concourse A connects with the airport's Federal Inspection facilities.

For domestic connections, passengers can move between the three concourses without clearing security again. If your connection involves different airlines, we recommend contacting the airlines for specific connection instructions.

Airlines at Chicago Midway Airport

Midway currently serves several scheduled passenger airlines: Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, and Volaris. Airline schedules and gate assignments can change. Therefore, check your current Midway Airport Flight Status and flight information for any schedule or gate changes.

Airline name Concourses International/Domestic
Allegiant Air Concourse A Domestic
Delta Air Lines Concourse A Domestic
Frontier Airlines Concourse C Domestic & International
Southwest Airlines Concourses A & B Domestic & International
Volaris Airlines Concourse A International

Southwest is the largest carrier at MDW, while the other airlines operate a smaller number of flights.

Ticket counters and baggage claim

Airline ticket counters are located on the upper level of the main terminal. After checking in, passengers proceed toward the security checkpoint and then follow signs for their assigned concourse and gate. The Midway Airport terminal map shows baggage claim, ground-level access, parking connections, restrooms, and other services on the lower level.

Terminal garage and parking connections

The Terminal Garage is directly connected to the terminal and provides access to different terminal levels. The airport map shows connections between the garage and the upper, mezzanine, and lower levels of the terminal.

  • Garage Level 4: Connects with the upper-level ticketing and departures area.
  • Garage Level 3: Connects with the mezzanine.
  • Garage Level 1: Connects with the lower-level baggage claim and arrivals area.

Those who are expecting the offsite MDW Airport Parking shuttle on return can find the pickup point at the curb. You can easily get to the point by taking the exit through Door 5 or 6 behind the baggage carousels on the lower level and crossing a crosswalk.

Lounges at Chicago Midway Airport

The only lounge available at Chicago Midway International Airport is The Club MDW. It is located at the Central Market, near the entrance to Concourse B. The lounge provides seating, work areas, local food and beverages, airfield views, and charging facilities. The Club MDW is open daily, from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
