Disclaimer
This TSA checkpoint display is based on TSA data with an hour rolling window. While we make every effort to ensure it is timely and correct, we cannot guarantee its accuracy. Actual flight TSA wait times may vary. Please give yourself a time buffer to get through security.
SEA TSA wait times can be longer than you imagine. If you are planning to travel to the airport without accounting for this delay, you might even miss the flight. Checking current wait times on Way can help you decide when to arrive, and the checkpoint details below can help you choose which security checkpoint at SeaTac Airport to use.
SEA TSA wait times today
SEA has six main security checkpoints, and all six are in the Central Terminal area. Travelers can use any checkpoint and reach every gate without leaving the secure area. However, checkpoint hours and available screening services vary, especially during peak flight seasons. If you're traveling during these times, make sure to check the latest SEA TSA wait times before heading to the airport.
How early should you arrive at SEA Airport
Arrive early to allow for SEA TSA wait times. The time varies depending on when and where you travel. If you're flying during peak travel periods, allow extra time for longer wait times. Those who are catching a domestic flight should arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled time, whereas the buffer we recommend for international flyers is 3 hours.
| Flight type | Recommended arrival time |
|---|---|
| Domestic | At least 2 hours before departure |
| International | At least 3 hours before departure |
If you are planning to drive up to the airport, reserve your parking in advance. This eases check-in at the parking lot, and you can proceed to shuttles without hold-ups. A reservation is especially helpful if you're parking an offsite lot and taking its shuttle to the airport. You can also choose from several offsite SeaTac Airport parking options. For cheaper rates, reserve through Way.
SEA TSA checkpoints
Most of SEA's main security checkpoints are on the ticketing level, and Checkpoint 1 is on the Baggage Claim level. While some checkpoints are closer to specific concourses, you do not have to use the checkpoint closest to your gate. All main checkpoints provide access to all gates.
Checkpoint availability can be limited for early-morning and late-night flights, so check current operating hours before heading to security. Even if your checkpoint is far from your gate, you can walk to Concourses A, B, C, and D or take the SEA Underground to Concourses N and S. Use our SeaTac Terminal Map to find directions to each checkpoint.
Which SEA TSA checkpoint is closest to my gate?
As a rule of thumb, Checkpoints 1, 2, and 3 are closest to the A and S gates. Checkpoint 4 is closest to the Central Terminal and the B and C gates, while Checkpoints 5 and 6 are closest to the C, D, and N gates.
| Checkpoint | Closest gates |
|---|---|
| Checkpoint 1 | A and S |
| Checkpoint 2 | A and S |
| Checkpoint 3 | A and S |
| Checkpoint 4 | Central Terminal, B and C |
| Checkpoint 5 | C, D and N |
| Checkpoint 6 | C, D and N |
Remember, though, that these are proximity recommendations rather than gate restrictions. You can use any main checkpoint and then take SEA's internal train system to your concourse if necessary.
The best checkpoint may be the one with the shortest line or the screening program you qualify for.
Different TSA options at SEA
SEA offers several ways to make security more convenient and keep TSA wait times under control.
- TSA PreCheck: PreCheck is available at Checkpoints 1, 3, 5, and 6, although operating hours differ by checkpoint. TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is also available at Checkpoints 3 and 6 for participating airlines.
- CLEAR: CLEAR screening is available at Checkpoints 1 and 6. CLEAR also publishes current operating hours for its SEA locations, so members should confirm availability before traveling.
- SEA Spot Saver: Travelers without PreCheck or CLEAR can use SEA Spot Saver for free at Checkpoint 4 from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. until November 29, 2026. Appointments can be booked in advance or may be available on the same day, subject to availability. The Port is ending the program on November 30, 2026.
SEA Spot Saver is not the same as TSA PreCheck. It reserves a place in the screening line but does not provide expedited TSA screening privileges.
| Checkpoint | Screening options* | Operating hours |
|---|---|---|
| Checkpoint 1 | General Screening, PreCheck, CLEAR General Screening | 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Checkpoint 2 | General, U.S. Service Member Lane | 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Checkpoint 3 | General Screening, PreCheck, PreCheck Touchless ID, Premium Lane | 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. |
| Checkpoint 4 | General Screening, Premium Lane, Family Lane, SEA Spot Saver (4 a.m. to 10 p.m.), SEA Visitor Pass | 24 hours |
| Checkpoint 5 | TSA PreCheck | 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Checkpoint 6 | General Screening, Premium Lane (for selected airlines), TSA PreCheck, PreCheck Touchless ID, CLEAR General Screening, CLEAR PreCheck Screening | 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. |
*Available screening services and hours can change based on TSA operations and other operational needs.
We recommend that travelers check the live SEA TSA wait times and the operating hours of each checkpoint; this can save unnecessary navigation through the terminal.
How to reach TSA security from different areas of SEA
You can find six TSA checkpoints across the Central Terminal area. This makes navigation to security from different locations easier.
Airport parking
SEA's onsite parking garage is directly connected to the terminal. After parking, take the elevator to Level 4, then use the appropriate skybridge into the terminal. Once inside, follow signs to the ticketing level and the security checkpoints. To find the parking areas closest to your TSA checkpoint, study our SEA Airport Map before driving to the airport.
Drop-off areas
SEA has an upper Departures Drive and a lower Arrivals Drive. Departing passengers normally use the upper drive and enter the terminal on the ticketing level before proceeding to security.
Link light rail
SeaTac/Airport Station connects to the fourth floor of the parking garage by a covered walkway. From there, cross the skybridge into the terminal. SEA also offers a complimentary Train-to-Plane shuttle for travelers who need assistance between the terminal and Link station.
Rideshare and taxis
Travelers arriving by rideshare for a departing flight are dropped off on the airport drives, where they can enter the terminal and continue to ticketing and security.
Tips for getting through SEA TSA faster
Check the in-terminal signage for open checkpoints and screening types before entering the security line, and be prepared to change checkpoints when another option is moving faster. SEA staff can also direct travelers to the best available checkpoint.
Have your ID and boarding pass ready when you reach the document checker. Empty reusable water bottles before entering screening, and check TSA’s current rules for carry-on items before leaving home. SEA also recommends preparing electronics, liquids, and personal items according to screening requirements to reduce delays at the checkpoint.
SEA's checkpoints are ADA-accessible, and TSA Cares can be contacted in advance for assistance.
Why SEA TSA wait times matter when planning your trip
TSA screening is only one part of the airport journey. Your schedule should also account for driving conditions, parking or shuttle time, airline check-in and bag drop, and the walk or train ride from security to your gate.
This is especially important at SEA because the airport's checkpoints are distributed around the terminal. Because all main checkpoints lead to all gates, checking both wait time and gate proximity is usually the most practical approach.
