Flying out of EWR Airport? Then you should know that the three terminals in Newark Airport – A, B, and C tend to be crowded most of the time. Also, EWR Airport terminals are not within walking distance of each other. However, they are connected by the free AirTrain.
Most domestic flights operate from Terminal A. Terminal B is primarily used as an international terminal. Terminal C serves as the main hub for United Airlines, though the carrier also operates from Terminals A and B. If you are flying out from any of these terminals, we suggest that you know about the terminal in advance so that you don’t lose your way while navigating.

EWR Terminal A is the airport’s most modern and newest terminal. The terminal underwent a major revamp and was reopened in 2023 as a 1 million sq ft terminal with around 33 gates across three levels. The terminal boasts several amenities like lounges, a sensory room, a children’s play area, and family-friendly seating.

EWR Terminal B serves as the main international gateway, split across three key concourses – B1, B2, and B3. Each concourse has its own security checkpoint, so you won’t be able to move between them without clearing security again.

EWR Terminal C is the oldest at Newark Airport. It serves as the primary hub for United Airlines. The terminal features three key concourses – C1, C2, and C3, and has a total of 68 gates across them. Unlike Terminal B, the concourses share a common post-security area.
For onsite Newark Airport parking, you can use the short-term parking garages near each terminal. Depending on the terminal you’re flying out from, you can park at the Terminal A Short-Term Parking or Terminals B & C Short-Term Parking garages. P6 Economy Parking lot and P4 Daily Parking garage are the other lots and garages offering onsite parking options. For cheaper parking rates, it is always best to reserve parking at an offsite lot near the airport.

The lounge operating hours can change often. So, if you plan to access any of the EWR Airport lounges before your flight, ensure that you check the timings in advance.
Walk times from the security checkpoint to your boarding gate can differ considerably depending on your terminal and the distance of your gate from your checkpoint. If you are flying out of Terminal A, the approximate walk time from the security checkpoint to the gates can range from 2 minutes to 10 minutes.
Terminal C is the largest of all three terminals. The walk time can be as quick as 1 minute to the nearest gates or as long as 10 minutes to the farthest ones. These are just estimates based on a normal walking pace during non-peak hours or seasons. EWR Airport terminals can get heavily crowded during peak hours, especially in the morning and evening. This can easily increase your walk time even if your gate is close to the security checkpoint. Before driving to the airport, we always recommend checking the EWR flight status so that you don’t get stuck at EWR due to any unexpected delays.

Currently, the airport has six operational TSA security checkpoints across the three terminals. Terminal A has a single centralized checkpoint that serves all the gates. In Terminal B, there are separate checkpoints for each concourse. Terminal C has checkpoints at Level 2 and Level 3. All these checkpoints have TSA PreCheck, which lets you quickly pass through the security process. Before heading to EWR, check the live EWR TSA wait times so that you can get the actual wait times and plan your drive to the airport.
Also, CLEAR lanes are available on the departure levels of all the terminals. Depending on the terminal, CLEAR lanes typically open between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. and operate until anywhere between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. If you are enrolled in both TSA PreCheck and CLEAR, get into the CLEAR PreCheck lane to finish your biometric verification before heading into the PreCheck screening line.
International travelers arriving at EWR can use the Global Entry kiosks in Terminals B and C. For conditionally approved travelers requiring an in-person interview, enrollment centers are available in Terminals B and C. The centers are open daily but please confirm the working hours before you visit.
The rideshare and taxi pickup locations vary by terminal, so it’s best to know your pickup area before landing. Terminals A and B make use of the standard curbside pickup, though the spots are different along the arrivals level. Terminal C changed its pickup location recently. Check the table below for your terminal before requesting a ride, so you are not waiting at the wrong location for the pickup.
