Flying out on United Airlines from EWR? Then chances are you’ll be flying from Terminal C. EWR Airport Terminal C is the hub terminal of United Airlines and the busiest of all terminals in the airport. On average, around 33 million passengers use this terminal yearly. So you can imagine how busy the terminal can be most of the time.
With 68 gates sprawling across three concourses, you may feel that the terminal itself is like a small city. Navigating the terminal can turn a bit tedious if you are traveling during holidays or peak seasons. However, the payoff is real: great lounges, delicious food, and a layout fully designed to help United Airlines passengers.

Terminal C isn’t merely a terminal that United Airlines uses like Newark Airport Terminal A or B. The terminal is home to United, made around the carrier’s hub-and-spoke model since the Continental Airlines days. Compared to other terminals in EWR, you will find more United Gate Agents and MileagePlus desks at this terminal.
There is also a Polaris Lounge available at this terminal. If you plan to fly out of EWR via United Airlines often, this will be your go-to terminal; a terminal that will fully feel blue and white on a peak travel day.

EWR Airport Terminal C has five levels:
The terminal has three concourses – C1, C2, and C3.
Concourse C1 covers gates from C70 to C74, Concourse C2 covers gates from C75 to C123, and Concourse C3 covers gates from C125 to C139.
You are in luck if your connection is fully within EWR Airport Terminal C. All the concourses in the terminal share one secured area post-security, so you can walk between all the concourses without reclearing security.
As Terminal B concourses have separate checkpoints, a connection to or from Terminal B requires you to clear security again. If your connection leads you to Terminal A, ask about the Star Alliance/United airside shuttle at your gate. The shuttle operates directly to Terminal A without the need to exit security, which the AirTrain route would otherwise necessitate.
If you have traveled via Terminal C, you will know that United Airlines is the only carrier operating from this terminal. Most of United’s domestic and international flights operate from EWR Airport Terminal C. But the carrier also operates domestic flights from Terminal A and international arrivals via Newark Airport Terminal B.
Though the terminal is exclusive to United Airlines, you should know that Terminal C often experiences major flight delays due to adverse weather conditions, heavy congestion, and air traffic control restrictions. We always recommend you check the flight status before heading to the airport.
The terminal was opened in 1988, specifically built for Continental Airlines’ hub operations at EWR. Continental Airlines achieved rapid growth at EWR through the 1980s, and it required a terminal made around its hub-and-spoke routes. Passengers connecting between Continental flights at EWR wanted to move through the building quickly, and that’s how the concourses were designed.
United Airlines inherited EWR Airport Terminal C when Continental Airlines merged with it in 2010. United Airlines revamped the terminal many times as the passenger traffic and flight schedules surged in the subsequent years. In terms of gate count, the terminal remains the largest terminal in the airport.
The terminal has two main security checkpoints – Level 3 and Level 2 checkpoints. On average, EWR Airport Terminal C has a wait time of around 15 to 25 minutes. However, this can vary depending on the day, time, and season of your travel. For instance, if you’re traveling during peak hours, the wait time can surge to 30 to 45+ minutes. For an expedited security screening process, you can enroll in the TSA PreCheck program. The Uber and Lyft pickup for EWR Airport Terminal C shifted completely away from the arrivals curb to the Terminal C Garage by July 2026. Follow the Arrivals Level 1 signage to the Terminals B & C Short-Term Parking garage, then cross the pedestrian bridge to the third floor of Terminal C Parking; this is where the pickup happens. For taxis, the pickup is still at the curbside on the Arrivals level.
The most convenient way to reach other terminals from EWR Airport Terminal C is by taking the free AirTrain. It takes around 2 to 5 minutes to arrive at Terminal B via AirTrain. To arrive at the AirTrain station connecting Terminal A, it takes nearly 4 to 5 minutes. Then you can take the free shuttle bus to reach Terminal A.
