Terminal A, also known as Marine Air Terminal, is the oldest terminal at LaGuardia Airport. William Delano of the firm Delano & Aldrich designed the terminal's main building in the Art Deco style and opened it to the public in 1940. Terminal A was originally built to accommodate a fleet of flying boats (or Clippers) of Pan American Airways, America's primary international airline, in the 1930s and 1940s.
After the end of World War II, technological advancements rendered the Clippers obsolete, and in 1946, the Marine Air Terminal was remodeled to accommodate regular airplanes. As of 2022, Spirit Airlines, which operates at this terminal, offers services to numerous cities across the United States.

LGA Terminal A has just one level, where both arrivals and departures are located. Passengers can access check-in, security checkpoints, gates, departures, arrivals, baggage claims, and ground transportation all on the same level without navigating multiple floors.
Currently, Spirit Airlines is the only airline that operates out of Terminal A at LaGuardia Airport.
