Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Terminal A can be easier to navigate when you study the PHL Terminal A map. While the West side primarily handles international flights, Terminal A-East handles both domestic and international flights. Locate your gate, security checkpoint, parking garage, baggage claim, and airport amenities easily by using our PHL Terminal A map.

PHL Airport Terminal A map overview

Though the first international flights from PHL date back to 1945, a dedicated space for these flights was created in 1973 by converting an old aircraft hangar to handle the flights. The first terminal complex to serve international travelers and flights was opened in 1991, which was later turned into Terminal A-East.

Later, the terminal was expanded with a modern addition on the west side, which was opened in 2003 as Terminal A-West. Currently, Terminal A is divided into two sections:

Both Terminal A buildings have multiple levels serving different passenger functions. In general, Floor 1 includes baggage claim and other ground-level passenger facilities, while Floor 2 contains departures and TSA security checkpoints with access to the gates.

Once you pass through security, passengers can walk between PHL’s connected terminals without exiting and going through TSA again.

Terminal A-East

Terminal A-East serves a mix of domestic and international flights. A-East includes ticketing, baggage claim, TSA screening, restaurants, shops, restrooms, ATMs, charging stations, and passenger information services. A children’s play area is in Terminal A-East, while charging stations are available at several gates.

TSA at Terminal A-East

The A-East security checkpoint is located on the second floor. TSA PreCheck is available at A-East, although checkpoint hours and lane availability can change.

Check the latest Philadelphia TSA wait times before arriving because checkpoint operations can change.

Terminal A-West

Terminal A-West contains Gates A14 through A26 and primarily serves international flights.

Travelers looking for something to eat or drink can find restaurants and coffee shops near the gates and along the walkway connecting A-West and A-East. You can also find duty-free shopping, airline lounges, currency exchange, charging stations, restrooms, and airport art installations throughout the terminal.

Getting between Terminal A and other PHL terminals

After clearing security, passengers can walk between PHL’s connected terminals. This makes it easy to use another terminal’s restaurants, shops, lounges, or security checkpoint when appropriate. Travelers who are at the terminal and waiting for extended periods for flights can explore the rest of the Philadelphia Airport terminals.

Terminal F is the main exception for convenient walking. To get between Terminal F and other terminals, you should take the free airport shuttle. The shuttle serves Terminal F at Gate F-14, Terminal A at Gate A-1, and the B/C/D area at Gate C-16.

If you are connecting at PHL, check your departure gate before deciding which security checkpoint or terminal entrance to use.
