Question

How to get a replacement DL in PA?

To get a replacement driver’s license in PA, you need to make an official request to the state DMV online, by mail, or in person, and pay the replacement fee.

How to apply for a replacement driver’s license in PA

You can obtain a replacement driver’s license in PA by filling out the DL-80 form and submitting it to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The department receives your application through its official website (PennDOT), by mail to the official address, or by visiting the Driver’s License Center near you. You have to pay the fee while submitting the request. Also, attach the officially required documents and proofs with the request.

Online

To apply for a replacement or duplicate driver’s license in Pennsylvania, you must log in to the PennDOT official website. You can apply for the license online easily, provided your photo and signature are available in PennDOT.

Log in to the official PennDOT website using your driver’s license or photo ID number, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your SSN. Once you place the request, pay the replacement fees. If the payments via credit or debit card are successful, you can see a duplicate copy of the driver’s license on the portal. Print a copy and use it as your interim license for 15 days.

Mail

To apply for a replacement driver’s license in PA via mail, you need to fill out the form from the official website and attach copies of supporting documents and the money order or check for the application fee.

Download and fill out the DL-80 form available on the PennDOT website for a non-commercial driver’s license application for change/correction/replacement. Add copies of your ID proof, SSN, birth certificate, and passport. Those who are applying via mail must attach a money order or check for the application fee along with the application form.

Address to put on the mail, check, and money order:

PennDOT
P.O. Box 68272
Harrisburg, PA 17106-8272

If your picture is not updated with the PA Department of Transportation, the office will mail you a camera card. Visit a photo center near you with the card provided and fulfill the picture requirement as officially mandated. On the other hand, if your picture is already updated in the official portal, you will receive the license with the current photo.

In Person

You can go in person for a replacement driver’s license in PA. Either an Online Messenger Service or a Driver’s License center can help you place the application. Again, keep a copy of your primary proof, passport, residency certificate, and car title. In the absence of relevant documents, you have to reschedule the appointment.

Once you submit the application, the department will provide you with an interim license valid for 15 days. You can use this temporary license for the mentioned time, within which the department is expected to process and issue the replacement driver’s license.

How much is a replacement license in PA?

The PA driver’s license replacement cost is $42.50. Drivers applying online, by mail, or visiting the Driver License Center need to pay the fee to confirm the submission. Those who are applying via Online Messenger Service must pay the service charge in addition to the fee mentioned above.

Those who are applying via mail can pay either by check or by money order.
