How do I get paint off my car?

If the paint is fresh, you can try removing it with warm soapy water. Mix some soap with warm water, and use a soft cloth to dab the paint. Rinse the cloth often to prevent damage.

• For tougher paint spots, try using lacquer thinner. Put a small amount on a clean cloth, work on a small area at a time, and rinse with warm water afterward to protect your car’s original paint.

• Acetone-free nail polish remover is also helpful. Just dab a cloth with the remover, gently clean the spot, and then rinse with water.
• Gasoline can also help; apply a small amount with a cloth and rinse quickly after the paint lifts to keep your car’s finish safe.
• WD-40 works well for paint transfer. Remember to wear gloves for protection and use a melamine sponge to apply it in circular motions. Be careful about how hard you press to avoid damaging the clear coat.
