Question
How do I turn off the ESP BAS light on my Jeep?
Your ESP BAS light may turn on because of a defective brake switch, wheel speed sensors or steering angle sensors. The only way to turn off the ESP BAS light is to identify the exact cause of the light and fix it.
You’ll need to figure out why the ESP BAS light turned on in the first place before you can turn it off.
Cause 1: Defective Brake Switch
Fix: Step 1: Try to reset it by manually pushing the switch’s plunger
Step 2: Alternatively, you can also tape a small object to the brake pedal arm to keep the switch engaged. But this is a temporary solution.
Step 3: The be-all and end-all solution is replacing the switch. Locate the switch behind the brake pedal, disconnect the wiring harness, rotate and remove the old switch, and install the new one in reverse order.
Cause 2: Defective Wheel Speed Sensors
Fix: Step 1: Park on a level surface and safely lift and support the vehicle to remove the wheel.
Step 2: Locate and unplug the sensor’s electrical connector. Unbolt and remove the old sensor and clean the mounting area.
Step 3: Install the new sensor, reconnect the electrical connector, and reassemble the wheels. Always make sure to test the vehicle after.
Cause 3: Defective Steering Angle Sensors
Fix: Step 1: Turn on the Jeep engine.
Step 2: Now, turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops and then to the left until it stops.
Step 3: Finally, return the steering wheel to the center so the tire will face forward, turn off the engine and then restart it. Then, take your vehicle for a drive.
Tip: While it’s easy to fix an illuminated ESP BAS light, if you’re someone with no automotive knowledge, it’s better to seek professional help.
