Can I drive with a P0171 code?

It's best not to drive with a P0171 code. A lean fuel trim code, like P0171, can cause serious performance problems that may lead to costly repairs. 

These problems can include poor fuel economy and even damage to the engine. If this code is stored for a long time, it could even harm your car’s catalytic converter, which is very expensive to replace. 

The P0171 code typically indicates that your engine’s air-fuel mixture is too lean, i.e., there’s too much air and not enough fuel.

If you absolutely must drive with this code, don’t drive for too long. As long as your car is running smoothly without any noticeable loss of power, rough idling, or misfiring, you might just get away with driving it for a short distance. Even so, you don’t want to hit the accelerator too much.
