Question

Can I leave my car in a parking garage for a month?

Yes, you can leave your vehicle in a parking garage for a month. Look for parking facilities that offer long-term parking at offsite locations near the airport or within the city.

It is important to take a few precautions before storing it in the garage for a month. Major issues that can occur include the risk of a dead battery, pest attacks, and flat tires.

Prior to the storage, make sure you check the following off the list.

  • Clean your car, especially the inside. This will make sure that your car remains free from bad odors or pest attacks.
  • Since the battery is not in use, you can disconnect the battery to avoid loss of charge.
  • If the storage is going to be for more than a month or two, change the oil as well.
  • Do not engage the parking brake. When engaged for too long, it can increase the chances of corrosion.
  • In the case of an EV, charge between 40% and 60%.

While storing, make sure you have comprehensive coverage to protect your car against theft, vandalism, or weather damage.
