Question

How to warm up your car in winter?

When the temperature drops, it's a good idea to let your car warm up and idle for a couple of minutes.

The custom of letting cars warm up on chilly days dates back to when cars had carburetors. Although it’s customary, experts say it’s no longer necessary. Most cars these days are powered by combustion engines, which ignite a mixture of gasoline and air to move the pistons that drive the car’s activities. A carburetor was used to supply this mixture of gas and air.

To warm up your car quickly,
  • Make sure the car is in a safe spot.
  • Without starting the engine, turn on the ignition.
  • Five seconds after turning on the ignition, start the car.
  • Please do not turn on the heater, as it has cold air. Instead, idle the engine.
  • After 30 seconds, turn on the heater. It should have warmer air.
Keep in mind that warming the car for extended periods can harm the engine and the environment.
