Question

What is the capacity of a car’s gas tank?

The capacity of a car’s gas tank mostly depends on the size of your car. While larger cars can hold up to 15 gallons of gas, smaller ones on the market can only hold up to 12 gallons.

The mileage of a car isn’t related to how big the fuel tank is. While having a bigger fuel tank can help the car last long on the road without a gas refill, it has nothing to do with the MPG.

The size of a car’s engine can also determine its fuel tank capacity. While a two-cylinder engine can hold up to 11-12 gallons of gas, a four-cylinder, five- or six cylinders can hold up to 16 gallons. That being said, it’s better to choose a car based on its use case and fuel efficiency than its tank capacity unless you are going for a larger vehicle that can tow or haul.

However, an ideal car would be one which has both good fuel efficiency as well as decent fuel tank capacity. This can ensure an excellent driving range and cost efficiency.
