Question
What is valet parking?
Valet parking is a value-added service in which a valet or attendant parks your car for you at a hotel, airport, etc.
The service is purely for the convenience of the customer. With valet parking, you do not have to worry about finding a parking space in a busy lot.
How much does valet parking cost?
Valet parking in hotels and restaurants is usually free, except for the tip. All the same, airports and other private parking spaces charge additional fees for the service. The average cost for valet service across the US ranges between $35 and $50 per day.
How does valet parking work?
In the case of private parking spaces and airport parking that offer the service, you need to choose the valet option while reserving your parking spot. Remember, not all parking lots have this service.
Once you arrive at the parking space, the attendant (an expert at driving and parking) will meet you at the entrance and take your car to the secure parking lot. These lots have limited or no public access. Also, the vehicles in such a space are parked more tightly. In this manner, more cars can be parked in a limited space.
Who is responsible if the car is damaged during valet parking?
Legally, if the car is damaged after the valet takes bailment (temporary transfer of the car to the parking service without changing the ownership), it will be their responsibility to a certain extent. You couldn’t possibly hold them for theft or damage due to a natural disaster. But they will have to compensate for the scratches and damages other than the existing ones.
