Once you know which MSP terminal you’re using, the next step is knowing your way around it. This guide covers the layout of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, concourses, baggage claim, ground transportation, and how each terminal connects to its parking ramps so that you can move through the airport without any confusion.

MSP Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) map with parking ramps

MSP terminal overview

MSP has two terminals sitting 3 miles apart by road, each with its own airlines and parking ramps.

  • Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) — the larger terminal, with seven concourses (A through G)
  • Terminal 2 (Humphrey) — the smaller terminal, with a single concourse (H)

There is no indoor walkway between the two terminals. Because each terminal has its own highway exit, taking the wrong one means a several-minute road detour rather than a quick walk, so it’s worth confirming your terminal before you leave for the airport.

Terminal 1 map overview

Terminal 1 is organized into seven concourses. Concourse C includes an underground tram with three stops running its full length, which is useful since Terminal 1 is large enough that walking between distant concourses can take 10–15 minutes. For a full breakdown of gates, airlines, dining, and lounges, read our Terminal 1 guide.

Terminal 2 map overview

Terminal 2 features a single concourse with a more compact, straightforward layout, making ticketing, security, baggage claim, and gates easier to navigate than Terminal 1’s sprawling concourse system. For airline assignments, security checkpoint hours, and dining, see our Terminal 2 guide.

Getting between terminals: METRO Blue Line

The free METRO Blue Line light rail is the primary way to travel between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A few key facts:

  • Travel between the two terminal stations is free and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Beyond the airport, standard fares apply; the line continues to multiple stops, including Mall of America (about 12 minutes from the airport) and downtown Minneapolis’s Warehouse District (about 25 minutes).
  • The Blue Line runs every 15–20 minutes.
  • The Terminal 1 light rail station sits below the Red, Blue, and Silver Ramps, accessible via the Level T tram. The Terminal 2 station is on the north side of the Orange Ramp.
  • A complimentary shuttle is also available as an alternative to the light rail for passengers with mobility challenges or other special needs.

Arrivals, Baggage claim & Ground transportation

Terminal 1:

  • Baggage claim is on Level 1. Follow signage from your arrival concourse.
  • Rideshare and taxi pickup, along with rental car counters, are accessed via Level 1/Level T.
  • The Global Entry interview area is located near baggage carousel #11 on the baggage claim level.

Terminal 2:

  • Baggage claim is on Level 1, near ticketing.
  • Rideshare, taxi pickup, and ground transportation are available on the second level of the Purple parking ramp.
  • The Blue Line light rail station is located on the north side of the Orange Ramp.

MSP parking ramp

MSP identifies its parking ramps by color rather than number, which shows up on signage, wayfinding screens, and parking tickets throughout the airport.

Terminal 1 is served by seven parking ramps:

  • Blue ramp
  • Red ramp
  • Silver ramp
  • Green ramp

Terminal 2 has two parking ramps:

  • Orange ramp

Construction & future changes

A few active and upcoming projects are worth knowing about if you’re navigating MSP in 2026:

  • A confirmed $305 million Concourse G expansion project is underway, adding 157,000 square feet of new public space between gates G8 and G13. It includes a wider central corridor, a 52% increase in gate seating, additional restrooms and concessions, and improvements to Customs and Border Patrol passenger processing spaces. Completion is expected in 2029.
  • A $10.1 million CIP project is underway at Terminal 2 to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow. The project includes adding a fifth traffic lane, relocating the rideshare zone, upgrading utilities and lighting, and removal and modification of landscaping, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters along the roadway. Throughout construction, at least three traffic lanes will remain open.
  • Along with significant reconstruction of Terminal 1’s concourses and the Terminal 2 North Expansion project, there are also active projects to enhance the inbound roadway experience at Terminal 1 and construction of a new emergency operations center for strategic response and communications.

So, it’s worth knowing that MSP’s layout is expected to change substantially over the next decade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I pick up an arriving passenger at MSP if I don’t want to park?

Use the free cell phone waiting lot on Post Road between the two terminals, then move to the terminal curb once your passenger confirms they’re ready.

Can oversized vehicles park in MSP’s parking ramps?

There’s no dedicated over-height parking at MSP. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 ramps have a 7’ clearance, with some ramps on different levels offering a clearance of 9'-2” and 8'-2”, so taller vehicles should plan accordingly.

How accessible is MSP’s airport layout for travelers with mobility needs?

MSP offers wheelchair-accessible restrooms, tactile maps, ASL interpretation via the Aira app, and a complimentary shuttle as a light-rail alternative for travelers with mobility challenges.

How do I walk from Terminal 2’s parking ramp into the terminal?

Via a covered skyway connecting the Orange and Purple ramps directly to Terminal 2. Travelers can use the free light rail service to connect to Terminal 1 from the Orange and Purple ramps.

Does MSP have tactile maps for travelers who are blind or have low vision?

Yes, tactile maps are installed at restroom entrances throughout the airport as part of MSP’s broader accessibility features.
