Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, or commonly known as PHX Airport, is a bustling hub in Phoenix that serves over 51 million passengers annually and offers world-class amenities. If you are flying for business or leisure, this PHX guide provides essential information to ensure a smooth and stress-free airport experience.
About Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
It is located around 3 miles east of downtown Phoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is the largest and busiest airport in Arizona and is also one of the largest commercial airports in the United States. With an average yearly passenger traffic of around 51.6 million, PHX is one of the busiest airports globally. American Airlines uses PHX airport as a hub, while Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines use it as a base. The airport is known for being the busiest three-runway airport in the world.
Inside Sky Harbor
Inside the airport, you will find Terminal 3 and Terminal 4. Sky Harbor Airport does not have Terminals 1 and 2! Terminal 1 was taken down in 1991 after Terminal 4 opened. The airport authorities have confirmed that Terminal 2 is no longer in use. However, they have kept the current numbering system for the terminals as it is already familiar to passengers. The 326-foot-tall (99 m) air traffic control tower at the airport opened on January 14, 2007. It is right next to the parking area for Terminal 3 and is also where the Phoenix TRACON stops. This is the third control tower at Sky Harbor and one of the largest in North America.
