Everybody is aware that luxury cars are the cars with the worst gas mileage.

Fuel economy is a topic of hot discussion. So it’s only natural that people lean towards more economic options nowadays, given that record-high gas costs have disrupted the middle class balance.

The majority of people aren’t talking about fuel-inefficient cars. While most automakers attempt to make up for their cars’ poor fuel efficiency by including extra unique amenities, you should be prepared to pay over $10,000 more in gasoline costs over the next five years compared to other new cars.

Here are the five cars of 2025 with the worst gas mileage.

Cadillac Escalade V AWD (13 mpg)

Engine / Transmission MPG (Combined) City / Hwy Annual Fuel Cost
A-S10, 6.2L, 8cyl 13 11/17 $4,750

According to fueleconomy.gov, the Cadillac Escalade has one of the poorest fuel efficiencies. However, as a high-performance version of the standard Cadillac Escalade, it’s not surprising to see the supercharged luxury 3-row SUV on the list. For instance, the standard 2WD and 4WD variants of the Escalade have 17 and 16 combined mpg, respectively.

The SUV is powered by a 6.2L eight-cylinder engine and has a combined fuel economy rating of 13 mpg. The Dodge Durango SRT AWD is another identical high-performance SUV with a 6.2L eight-cylinder engine and 13 mpg combined fuel economy.

Ford Mustang GTD (12 mpg)

Engine / Transmission MPG (Combined) City / Hwy Annual Fuel Cost
AM-S8, 5.2L, 8cyl 12 10/17 $4,000

Contrarily, this shouldn’t be all that shocking. Very few individuals even remotely consider a Ford Mustang a fuel-efficient alternative. If you were on the fence, let us assure you, the GTD variant is not a car to consider if you want to save money on gas.

A supercharged 5.2-liter eight-cylinder engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission powers the Mustang GTD.

The Mustang GTD generates a staggering 664 pound-feet of torque and 815 horsepower with a 7,650 RPM redline. In addition, the GTD achieves a 10 mpg city and 17 mpg highway rating.

It receives a combined rating of 12 mpg as a result.

Lamborghini Revuelto (12 mpg)

Engine / Transmission MPG (Combined) City / Hwy Annual Fuel Cost
AM-S8, 6.5L, 12cyl 12 10/17 $5,150

No one on this planet considers Lamborghini a fuel-efficient car. But if you thought a plug-in hybrid is going to be any different, you are so wrong. The Revuelto is no better than the Aventador it replaced when it comes to fuel economy. Plus, it uses electricity from its battery for performance rather than for improving efficiency.

The 6.5-liter V12 in the Revuelto produces a combined 1001 horsepower. It’s combined with an 8-speed dual-clutch automated manual and offers a pitiful 12 mpg in combined driving thanks to its 10 city and 17 highway mpg ratings. Plus, if you have $600,000 to spend on a car, we highly doubt fuel economy is much of a concern.

Ferrari Purosangue (12 mpg)

Engine / Transmission MPG (Combined) City / Hwy Annual Fuel Cost
AM-8, 6.5L, 12cyl 12 11/15 $5,150

Now that we have reached this point, it is safe to say that the owners of these vehicles don’t care much about the gas price. The Ferrari “family car” has a $400k-plus price tag.

It’s reasonable to believe that the customers can afford to pay whatever it costs to fill the vehicle, as it carries a price tag that’s big enough to buy a good house in many locations. Yeah, it’s worrying to see how willing people are to spend a boatload of money on a shiny metal structure.

A naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 engine powertrain powers the Purosangue.

We, regular people, squirm just thinking about how much fuel that statement uses. The Ferrari Purosangue can generate up to 715 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque, and since it weighs over two tonnes, it needs that force. As a result, the Ferrari SUV has an average combined fuel economy of 12 mpg (11 mpg city, 15 mpg highway).

Bugatti Mistral (9 mpg)

Engine / Transmission MPG (Combined) City / Hwy Annual Fuel Cost
AM-S7, 8.0L, 16cyl 9 8/12 $6,900

One of the most expensive cars on the planet also has the lowest fuel economy. So, a car with a fuel efficiency rating in the single digits for the 2024 model year almost feels criminal.

It’s also not too far from being against the law, but Bugatti is continuing as long as it can get away with it.

A quad-turbocharged W16 engine powers the Mistral, producing an astounding 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. With a top speed of 282 mph, the roofless Mistral currently holds the title of the world’s fastest roadster.

Owning a limited edition roofless Chiron (which is exactly what the Mistral is) will cost extra tens of thousands of dollars over five years compared to the industry average. In other words, a Mistral can cost you an additional $24,000 on fuel over a five-year period compared to the average figure for new cars in the US.

But let’s face it, no Bugatti clocks up that mileage. Given its $5 million starting price, you cannot feel pity for Chiron owners at the gas pump.

Bottom Line

As mentioned above, most of these cars are not bought with daily use in mind. Instead, they are typically high-performance cars. The owners of performance and sports cars know that purchasing them usually entails giving up good fuel economy. It doesn’t matter if these cars have the worst gas mileage, as the target audience values the brand name more.

Investigating just how awful things can get with fuel economy is still amusing despite this. Our advice: avoid these cars if you’re looking to purchase a reliable, fuel-efficient new car.
