Top-Rated Available LAX Airport Parking with Free Shuttle

LAX Economy Parking is the airport’s largest official parking facility and, for most travelers, the best balance of price and convenience among LAX’s own lots. This page covers everything specific to Economy Parking, including the actual structure, current rates, shuttle details, EV charging, and reservations.

Parking spaces More than 4,000
EV chargers 514 active chargers
Hours 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Shuttle Free, runs 24/7, approximately every 10-15 minutes
Level 1 clearance 14 feet
Levels 2-4 clearance 8 feet, 1 inch

What is LAX Economy Parking?

Economy Parking is a multi-level parking garage, separate from the terminal loop. Level 1 has a notably higher clearance of 14 feet, while Levels 2 through 4 are capped at 8 feet, 1 inch. If you’re driving anything taller than 8 feet, 1 inch, plan to use Level 1.

Unlike the CTA structures, Economy Parking is not designed for travelers to park and walk directly across the roadway to their terminal. The airport operates a dedicated shuttle service between Economy Parking and the Central Terminal Area.

How much is LAX Economy Parking?

The current LAX Economy Parking drive-up rate is:

  • $8 for the first hour or fraction thereof
  • $7 for each additional 30 minutes
  • $35 maximum for each 24 hours

The $35 charge is a maximum for 24 hours rather than a separate overnight fee. That 24-hour period is not tied to calendar days. How much you pay depends on how long the vehicle remains parked, subject to the daily maximum.

How does the LAX Economy Parking shuttle work?

The Economy Parking shuttle connects the facility to the Central Terminal Area.

LAX provides complimentary shuttle service 24 hours a day. Passenger pickup and drop-off are located on Level 1 in the southeast section of the garage and at the pink LAX Shuttle zones on the Arrivals Level of the CTA.

After parking at the Economy garage:

  1. Follow the signs.
  2. Go to the designated pickup area on Level 1.
  3. Board the free shuttle to the Central Terminal Area.
  4. Get off at your terminal.
  5. Then take the elevator, escalator, or stairs to the Upper/Departures Level.

ADA-accessible, lift-equipped shuttle vehicles are available; contact LAWA in advance if you need one.

EV charging at LAX Economy Parking

Economy Parking has 514 active EV chargers on Level 1, making it the largest concentration of EV charging at LAX. Charging is billed separately from your parking fee: $2 per session plus $0.45 per kWh. There are no idle fees, so you can plug in when you arrive and leave your vehicle charging for the full length of your trip without being penalized. This is one of the strongest reasons to choose Economy Parking specifically over Budget Parking, which has no EV chargers at all.

How far is Economy Parking from LAX terminals?

Economy Parking is separated from the Central Terminal Area, which is why the free shuttle is an important part of the parking experience. The Economy garage is located about 1 mile away from the LAX airport terminals. However, the exact time between the facility and your terminal can vary with roadway conditions, traffic, construction, and the specific terminal where you are traveling.

Why Economy Parking exists as a separate tier

LAX has several official parking tiers, including Budget Parking, Economy Parking, and the Central Terminal Area garages. This gives travelers a genuine price-versus-proximity tradeoff rather than a single one-size-fits-all rate. Economy Parking sits as the mid-tier option. It’s more expensive than Budget but with real added value (EV charging, a covered structure, more frequent shuttle service), and meaningfully cheaper than parking directly across from your terminal in a CTA garage. For most travelers who don’t need to walk directly to their terminal and don’t want the most bare-bones option, Economy is the practical default among LAX’s own lots.

What happens if you arrive without a reservation?

You can still use LAX Economy Parking without making an advance reservation. The airport provides drive-up parking at the posted rate. However, availability is not guaranteed for drive-up parking. LAX specifically recommends arriving early during busy periods because parking availability can be limited. Reserve in advance to guarantee a space.

LAX Economy Parking vs. offsite airport lots: Which is cheaper?

If price is your main concern, offsite airport parking near LAX can be a more economical option than LAX Economy Parking. The official Economy lot currently charges a $35 daily maximum, while reputable offsite lots near LAX offer parking spots starting at about $4.99/day. That is $30 less per day than the current advertised starting rates. To learn more about the rates and differences, visit our LAX Airport parking page.

Over a longer trip, that gap only widens. If minimizing cost is your top priority, especially for a trip of a week or longer, an offsite lot will almost always beat Economy Parking’s price.

LAX Economy Parking Offsite LAX Parking
Daily rate $35/day maximum From $4.99/day
Parking type Official airport parking Offsite airport lots
Shuttle Free, 24/7 Varies by facility
Covered parking Available Available at certain lots
EV charging Available Depends on the facility
Reservation Available Available at participating lots

What happens if your flight is delayed?

If you have an Economy Parking reservation and your vehicle remains parked beyond the reserved time, the reservation terms matter.

LAX says that when a reserved vehicle stays more than two hours after the reservation ends, a new parking session begins at the posted rates and additional payment is required before exiting.

If you know before traveling that your flight schedule has changed, LAX allows travelers to amend reservation arrival and departure times through Manage Reservation up to two hours before arrival.

Accessibility at Economy Parking

LAX provides accessible parking and transportation services for travelers with disabilities. Vehicles displaying a valid disability placard or license plate can park at Economy Parking and pay the same posted rate as standard parking. However, there’s no separate ADA pricing tier. As noted above, ADA-accessible, lift-equipped shuttle vehicles are available for the ride to and from the terminals. Travelers who need additional accessibility assistance at the airport should arrange airline-specific wheelchair assistance with their airline before traveling.

Tips for using LAX Economy Parking

  • Book in advance. LAX says reserved parking can guarantee a space.
  • Allow time for the shuttle. Economy Parking is not in the terminal loop, so your airport journey includes parking plus the transfer to the CTA.
  • Check your vehicle's height. Level 1 has 14 feet of clearance, while Levels 2-4 allow up to 8 feet, 1 inch.
  • Save your parking location. Take a photo of the garage level and the area where you parked before going to the shuttle.
  • Keep your QR code accessible. Reserved parking customers need their reservation information for entry.
  • Check your return flight. A significant delay can add charges if your vehicle stays more than two hours past your reservation end time.
  • Check EV charging before your trip. Economy has many active chargers, but EV space availability and charging-system conditions can change.
  • Check for construction updates. LAX construction and transportation projects can affect roadways and passenger routes.
  • Plan around the 30-day limit. Vehicles parked more than 30 days may be impounded unless you request an extension from ABM at (310) 646-2911.

LAX Economy Parking FAQs

Can I cancel an LAX Economy Parking reservation?

Yes. LAX allows reservations to be canceled up to two hours before arrival for a full refund.

Is Economy Parking better than Budget Parking for EV drivers?

Yes. Economy Parking has many EV chargers, while Budget Parking has none, making Economy the clear choice on-airport if charging your vehicle during your trip matters to you.

What if my phone dies before I can show my Economy Parking reservation QR code?

Print your reservation QR code before leaving home as a backup. Show a printed copy of your reservation QR code, which LAX accepts for entry. If you don't have one, contact the parking attendant or ABM at (310) 646-2911.

Can I park a commercial vehicle at LAX Economy Parking?

It depends on the vehicle. Vehicle size and clearance restrictions apply, and LAX does not accommodate certain large vehicles in its parking structures. Vehicles over 8 feet 1 inch must use Level 1, which has 14 feet of clearance, and LAX restricts some commercial and oversized vehicles, so check LAX's parking rules before arriving.

How does Economy Parking compare to Van Nuys FlyAway Parking for a long trip?

Van Nuys FlyAway Parking costs up to $6 per day but is in the San Fernando Valley, about 20 miles from LAX, and is only for FlyAway bus riders. Economy Parking costs more but is about 1 mile from the terminals with a free 24/7 shuttle.
