LAX Terminal 6

Opened in 1963 as “Ticketing Building 6” and “Satellite 6", LAX Terminal 6 is a major domestic and international passenger terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), serving Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, among others. The terminal includes gates, airline lounges, restaurants, shops, passenger services, and connections to other terminals. Terminal 6 has also been significantly upgraded in recent years. Here’s what to expect if you’re flying out of Los Angeles Airport Terminal 6.

Terminal 6 covers 16 gates, spanning Gates 60 through 69, including several lettered sub-gates: Gates 60, 61, 62, 63A, 63B, 64A, 64B, 64C, 65A, 65B, 66, 67, 68A, 68B, 69A, and 69B. Terminal 6 has separate passenger areas for departures and arrivals, with ticketing and security on the departures level and baggage and many transportation services on the arrivals level.

Terminal 6 has access to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Federal Inspection Station (FIS). Alaska Airlines says international arrivals between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. are processed at Terminal 6; arrivals outside those hours are processed at Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Alaska Airlines has operated from Terminal 6 since 2012 and treats it as its hub.

The Lower/Arrivals Level has its own smaller set of offerings, including a Starbucks, an Access Hollywood retail shop, currency exchange, Interactive Visitor Centers, Smart Carte luggage carts, and Volunteer Information Professionals to help with directions.

A nursing room is available at the Terminal 6 Departure Level, near Gate 64B, while the designated pet relief and service animal relief area is located near Gate 62. Passengers traveling with service animals should follow their airline’s procedures and use designated relief facilities at the airport.

Terminal 6 has two airline lounge options: the Alaska Lounge and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.

Alaska Lounge

The Alaska Lounge is on the mezzanine level near Gate 64. The lounge is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and lounge passes are available. The lounge gives eligible travelers a place to relax before their flight, with food and beverage service, Wi-Fi, and other amenities. Access depends on the passenger’s qualifying ticket, status, membership, lounge pass, or other Alaska eligibility requirements.

Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge

The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge is located near Gate 65A and is open daily. Air Canada’s branded lounge is generally available to Maple Leaf Lounge members, eligible premium cabin passengers, and qualifying Star Alliance elite travelers. Passengers have elevator access from the terminal to the lounge level.

Access rules for both lounges follow each airline’s standard eligibility policies, so check with Alaska or Air Canada directly if you’re unsure whether your ticket or status qualifies.

Where you check in depends on your airline.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines: Alaska and Hawaiian have combined ticket counters at Terminal 6. Alaska currently lists the following Terminal 6 counter hours:

• Domestic: 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily
• International: 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily

Alaska says checked baggage is accepted only during ticket-counter hours and no more than four hours before departure. Alaska recommends arriving two hours before departure if you're checking bags, traveling with a pet, flying internationally, need accessibility assistance, or need help at the ticket counter. Passengers without bags or ticket-counter assistance are advised to arrive one hour before departure.

Air Canada operates its LAX flights from Terminal 6. The baggage claim carousels are on Level 1, while Level 2 houses the check-in kiosks. Air Canada’s check-in counters open four hours before the scheduled departure time.

Breeze Airways, Horizon, Porter, and Southern Airways Express also use Terminal 6. Check your airline's current ticketing instructions before traveling because counter locations and operating hours can differ.

Terminal 6 has a TSA passenger screening checkpoint on the departures level, near Gate 61. The terminal's modernization included a redesigned security checkpoint with five automated screening lanes and three standard lanes.

LAX Terminal 6 passengers can also move through airport security using CLEAR lanes.

Airside walkways connect Terminal 6 with Terminals 7 and 8 and, through Terminal 4, with the Tom Bradley International Terminal. During Terminal 5 construction, follow posted signs for the current route between Terminals 6 and 4. Passengers who are already in the secure area can use the appropriate post-security connections available without needing to go through security again.

If you prefer not to walk, LAX also operates frequent courtesy shuttle service around the Central Terminal Area.

Terminal 6 is part of LAX's Central Terminal Area, where the airport's parking structures sit inside the terminal loop. The closest parking facility to Terminal 6 is the P-6 structure, and it’s connected via a covered walkway on the fourth level. However, you don’t have to select a parking facility solely because your flight leaves from Terminal 6.
