About Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is an international airport in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. CLE is the allotted airport code. It is the main airport for Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. It is also the biggest and busiest in the state. It is the 43rd busiest airport in the country by passenger volume. It is next to the Glenn Research Center, one of NASA's ten primary field centers, located in Cleveland's Hopkins neighborhood 9 miles southwest of Downtown Cleveland. Short-term and long-term parking options are available. CLE parking is available offsite as well. CLE is one of the busiest airports in the city of Ohio, but navigation can be made easy with the help of the Cleveland Airport Map.

Cleveland Hopkins is particularly significant to the history of commercial aviation because of several firsts-of-their-kind developments that would later become the industry standard.

In 1930, it was the location of the first air traffic control tower, ground-to-air radio control system, and airfield lighting system. In 1968, it became the first airport in the U.S. with a direct connection to a local or regional rail transit system.

The airport has led the way in setting standards with its innovations. For example, it was the first airport to have a tower for air traffic control and a layout with two terminals for arrivals and departures. Additionally, it was the first airport with a direct connection to a mass transit network.

Cleveland Hopkins has a single, two-level passenger terminal that opened in 1978 and underwent renovation in 2016. There are four concourses: A, B, C, and D; however, only three are functional.
