Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is a public airport serving the Kansas City area. The Kansas City Airport has MCI as its allotted code. The Airport was originally called the Mid-Continent International Airport. The MCI Airport is located 15 miles northwest of Downtown Kansas City in Platte County, Missouri. When it first opened in 1972, the Airport took over for Kansas City Municipal Airport (MKC), and scheduled passenger airline operations were eventually shifted there.
Kansas City Airport offers long-term and short-term parking, along with EV Parking. Several offsite parking lots are available at affordable rates. The parking lots can be spotted using the Kansas City Airport Map. It is the main Airport for travelers in much of western Missouri and eastern Kansas, and it's conveniently located at the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Airport has three runways. MCI is mainly a civilian airport with mostly domestic routes and a few international routes.

The Kansas City Airport consists of 2 terminals. The B and C terminals of Kansas City International Airport are both half-circles. Both Terminals B and C have front access roads, with Rome Circle serving Terminal B and Beirut Circle serving Terminal C. Both ports are conveniently accessible from Interstates 29 and 435 through International Circle and Bogata Circle.
The West side of the Airport has Terminal B, and the East side of the Airport has Terminal C. Terminal B operates mostly regional and domestic flights. There are 20 gates at Terminal B, and three major airlines (Allegiant, Delta, and Southwest) operate out of there. All of the arrival and departure facilities, like ticket counters and security checkpoints, are located on the lower level.
The Airport's international and domestic flights depart from Terminal C, which is situated in the eastern part of the facility. American, Alaskan, Spirit, and United are just a few of the airlines that serve MCI. There are 22 gates in Terminal C. In Terminal C, Baggage claim, access to ground transportation, and security checkpoints are all located on the bottom level.
There is parking in front of the terminals and between them along the connecting route. Passengers can still get between terminals using the usual shuttle buses that leave from outside each terminal.
Passengers needing to transfer between Terminals B and C must take the Airport's free shuttle service. The terminals and the circle parking garages are serviced by red shuttle buses that run every 15 minutes. Frequent blue buses run every 20 minutes between the terminals and the low-cost parking garages. The RED BUS is a free service that runs between the Airport's three hubs. Overhead signs reading "Red Inter-Terminal Connection" point the way to the bus stations located just outside each terminal. These signs above the shuttle stops let you know where to get on and off.
EV charging outlets for EVs are available in the Airport's Economy Lot C at Kansas City International. Plug in and take off, knowing you'll return to a fully charged car thanks to Evergy's Clean Charge Network. Before arriving at Kansas City Airport, visitors will need to sign up for a free Evergy Clean Charge Network card. To learn more or sign up with Evergy, head over to their website. Stations for Economy Lot C can be found between Rows 2 and 3 and close to Bus Shelter #C4 (a paint palette designed by Thomas Hart Benton).
All airport-owned parking lots include accessible parking for passengers with disabilities. In addition, wheelchair-accessible shuttle buses service the parking lots. Disabled parking is located in section E3 of the circle lots and is available in all airport-operated parking lots. Contact 816-243-5870 for Parking related general inquiries.
Kansas City Airport has four pet relief areas
Outdoor pet relief areas can be found at either end of the Terminals B and C
There is an additional pet relief area inside the secure area of Terminal C near Gate C83. This additional pet relief area is available to passengers flying on Alaska, American, Frontier, or Spirit.
There are a total of 4 security checkpoints at MCI, with 2 of them placed in Terminal B near Gates 31 - 35 and Gates 56 - 60. There are two security checkpoints at Terminal C, one between Gates 61 - 69 and the other between Gates 76 and 85. The TSA ensures the safety of airline passengers, their luggage, and the planes themselves. Check out the TSA's travel resources page for official travel advice, packing lists, and security information.

The opening times change depending on when the flights are. As a general rule, this is at least 2 hours before the first flight departure, but if you're planning to get there early, check with your airline first.
